The Northern Lights 300 Sled Dog Race
This is a 300 mile qualifying race for the 1,000 mile Iditarod and Yukon Quest Sled Dog Races. The Northern Lights 300 is a unique mentoring race, designed to test and prepare rookies and their teams for the challenging conditions and demands of the long distance Iditarod and Yukon Quest races, while providing a great training opportunity and good competition to veteran mushers.


Trail and field set for Sheep Mountain 150 Sled Dog Race

The first race of the 2011 distance mushing season begins this weekend at Sheep Mountain Lodge.
2011 will mark the 6th annual running of the race. 50 teams plan to start the race on Saturday in 2-minute intervals, with the winner taking home part of the $4000 guaranteed purse.

Mat-Su Musher's Sports Authority rabies shot clinic scheduled for December 11

The musher rabies shot clinic for this season is scheduled for Dec 11, Sunday @ Knik Bar, Knik Lake, Alaska. Noon to 4pm. $6.00 per shot.

We always need volunteers. We hope we'll be able to pay for lunch or breakfast at the bar for the volunteers this year.

Things go faster if mushers bring dog info to transfer to the certificates: male or female, age (3 mo to 12 mo or 12 mo or older, size (under 20 lbs, 20 - 50 lbs, over 50 lbs), predominant breed, name, colors. We also need Musher's phone/e-mail and address. If musher's last name is A thru M, come at earlier times. If N thru Z, come at later time.

Sheep Mountain 150 sled dog race field full at 50 teams

A full-field of 50 teams has signed up for the 2011 Sheep Mountain 150 sled dog race. A waitlist has been started for additional teams beyond the 50-team limit. The Sheep Mountain 150 is a 150-mile sled dog race to be held December 17-18, 2011.

When was the last time you grabbed a stick of droë wors from your sled bag for a trail snack? Or, saw an ostrich from your 4-wheeler? Has a baboon ever snatched a yappy little poodle from your neighbor’s porch? Ever driven on the left side of the Interstate? If not, you haven’t lived a full life.

ISDVMA veterinarian, Dr. Jerry Vanek, and South African musher, Natalie van der Merwe, have co-founded a new North American/South African Dryland Musher Exchange Program.

Jackson, Wyoming – July 20, 2011 – The 2012 International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR) is slated for January 27 – February 4, 2012, announced Race Director Frank Teasley. The race is currently accepting applications for its roster limited to 25 teams. The largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states begins in Jackson, Wyo., and travels through small Wyoming communities before finishing in Park City, Utah.

Yukon Quest welcomes two new Alaska board members

May 6, 2011 (Fairbanks, Alaska) – The Yukon Quest’s Alaska Annual General Membership meeting (AGM) was recently held in Fairbanks.

Two current board members were voted back in and two new members will join the team. Voted back in for the Alaska board were Becky Alexander and Jodi Blakley (Bonacci).

UPSDA Annual Membership Election Meeting In May

The annual membership meeting of the Upper Peninsula Sled Dog Association will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 6pm at the Holiday Inn.

Three board members will be elected to serve three-year terms, ending in 2014. Terms for Pat Torreano, Cathy Egerer and Linda Storms are ending but they are eligible to be re-elected for another term, should they choose to run.

To be eligible to vote, or if someone wants to be considered for a position on the board, they must be a member of the UPSDA. If you want information on how to purchase a UPSDA membership, please go to

Wisconsin Residents: Help establish sled dog trails and working dog area at Badger Ordnance  Site

On Monday, April 11 at 7pm, all across the state, Wisconsin citizens will get the opportunity to voice their support for a multi-activity dog use and training facility at Badger Ordnance Site in central Sauk County near Baraboo. Attend the meeting or just vote. Voting is quick and easy, just fill out a ballot marking the questions that are of concern to you.

John Thompson, Becky Voris and Kate Tesch win National Skijoring Championship Titles.

Skijor USA is proud to announce the first annual National Skijoring Championship winners. John Thompson of Shoreview, MN and Becky Voris of Anchorage, AK won the 7K Two Dog National Skijoring Championship Title. John Thompson of Shoreview, MN and Kate Tesch of Superior, WI won the 14K One Dog National Skijoring Championship Title.

Conway Seavey finished just 6 seconds ahead of Alea Robinson. It was truly a competition to the finish line with both of the front runners switching lead position over the 28 mile return trail. Alea's close finish was especially commendable since she had to drop a dog at the half-way layover, finishing with just seven dogs to Conway's eight.

27th Annual Seguin Dog Sled Mail Run
