Betty Jean Davies Obituary

Long time ADMA Race Timer, Jean Davies, passed away on August 25, 2014.

8/28/14
Provided by Tom McGrane

Jean and her husband Wayne did all of the ADMA race timing for many, many years--volunteering for well over three decades, I believe. They set the standard for very accurate, repeatable timing down to 1/10th second. When I helped with timing I was always amazed at how calm and efficient they were, even with a team ready to go out and several coming in. Even more amazed when something went wrong and they calmly figured it out--while continuing to take care of starts and finishes.

Their early use of an Excel spreadsheet allowed us to quickly post results to our website and send to the media right after a race. You could count on them to start each race heat exactly on-time--something I really appreciated as a skijorer dressed lightly to work hard on the trail but prone to getting cold while waiting to start.

The timing tower was named for and dedicated to them. --Tom
