Voyageurs Classic Sled Dog Race Plans Finalized

Voyageurs Classic Sled Dog Race Plans Finalized

Plans are finalized for this year’s Voyageur Classic Sled Dog Race. This year’s race will be held January 11 and 12, 2013. Race activities will be held at the Northome School.

Running for a combined prize purse of $6000 the 8-Dog Pro Class mushers will leave at 10 am on Saturday, January 12. They will go 70 miles and have a one hour required rest at Barney’s Resort on Sand Lake. Racers will finish at Marcell between 5 pm and 8 pm on Saturday night. That race can be viewed at Northome, Barney’s Resort on Sand Lake, and Marcell.

The Trophy Class mushers will leave Northome at 11am and run 22 miles to finish at the Squaw Lake School. That race is expected to end between 1 and 3 pm on Saturday.

Vet checks will take place at the school from noon-7 pm on Friday, January 11.

Anyone that wants to sees the racers and their dogs can do so before the race begins or during vet check s on Friday.

Meals will be served at the Northome School on Friday evening and Saturday morning and all day Saturday at Mandis Café in Northome. In addition the Powerhouse Bar and Grill and the Northome Liquor store will have food and refreshments.
