Bootleg Sled Dog Races Canceled

8/29/12 | John Birrell | Bootleg Sled Dog Races

Bootleg Sled Dog Races in Kimberley, British Columbia, Canceled

After much consideration by the Bootleg Sled Dog Race Society and Bootleg Gap Golf Course it has been decided that there will be no more Bootleg Sled Dog Races.

Largely due to a number of reasons related to current economics and the unpredictable weather patterns. With unpredictable weather each year, it has been hard to ensure enough snow to allow safe conditions for the dogs and competitors.

A huge amount of work and expense is required to put on the race each year by both the Sled Dog Race Society and Bootleg Gap Golf Course. Having unpredictable conditions puts all that work and expense at risk each year until the last minute. Also making it hard for the competitors to plan to attend as many travel a great distance to get here.

We would like to thank the many sponsors, volunteers and competitors who made it such a great success the 3 years it did run. With the tremendous support it received this event raised over $50,000 for the East Kootenay Friends of Children charity.
