Law Regarding the Tethering of dogs in Quebec

7/30/11: Quebec Musher Alert - Legislation limiting the time a dog can be tethered

Since our last posting there has been some new developments.

First: due to a large volume of emails on this subject, the Minister's office has cut off all emails. They are accepting only written responses to the proposed law regarding tethering of dogs.

Second: After a meeting with the Quebec Mushers Association and due to the volume of responses, Government has extended the decision date for revision to the proposed law to August 26th, 2011.

It is important that the we keep writing the Minister involved to ask for a revision to this "article 27" regarding the tethering issue and request an exclusion for "Sled Dogs".

Thank you for your efforts and to all those who have responded. Please don't let up on your support letters for the revision, as the task is not yet compete!

6/29/11: Quebec Musher Alert - Legislation limiting the time a dog can be tethered

This "Alert" is regarding article 27 of the new law regarding treatment of Dogs & Cats here in Quebec. It basically states that "dogs cannot be tethered on a chain for more that 12 hours per day".

We have until the 5th of August 2011 to get an amendment.

Il est venu le temps de se mobiliser TOUS ENSEMBLE, qu'on soit récréatif, familial, ou touristique, afin de vous faire entendre face au projet de règlement sur la sécurité et le bien-être des chats et des chiens qui va devenir la nouvelle norme d'inspection de nos chenils.

Veuillez prendre connaissance de ce projet en prêtant une attention particulière à l’article 27. Cet article aura des répercussions négatives majeures sur notre sport : "Aucun animal ne doit être attaché à l’extérieur plus de douze heures par jour. " . Imaginez si vous avez 20, 30, 100 chiens, ce que cela signifie, comme infrastructure, sécurité, ( de vos chiens ou de clients) et autres problémes de dominance , comportement, encadrement .... 
Les commentaires sont permis pour un délai de 45 jours seulement aprés publication (donc, avant le 5 août 2011).

Selon l'AMQ, qui a défendu notre point de vue dans la dernière année dans les débats, il est primordial que chacun des mushers rencontre personnellement son député, son maire, afin de lui expliquer les arguments présentés dans le document ci-joint.

C’EST LE TEMPS D'AGIR, vous avez moins de 38 jours pour VOUS IMPLIQUER si vous tenez à garder votre chenil actuel et non de déléguer votre pouvoir à un autre, c'est à VOUS de fonctionner, à nous tous ensemble de faire cet effort de contacter un maximum de gens pour gagner ce changement avant la date limite ! 

Parlez-en à vos amis mushers et à toute personne qui peut aider ! Prenez rendez vous avec votre député et envoyez le document à Mme Fortin (Madeleine.Fortin@mapaq.gouv.qc.ca) en vous identifiant avec précision.

Soyez poli, il ne s'agit pas de les attaquer ni de dire que leur nouveau rêglement est pourri, au contraire, soyez respectueux et appuyez sur le fait que vous souhaitez contribuer à l'amélioration en pointant la spécificité de nos chiens nordiques , et mentionnez l'appui reçu de l'élu rencontré .

Il faut qu’il y ait un grand nombre de mushers qui se mobilisent si l’on souhaite être entendus. Ce coup ci, c'est en groupe qu'on doit défendre notre sport, notre passion, notre mode de vie , personne ne pourra le faire à notre place, et une fois cette loi passée, on devra vivre avec ces nouvelles normes qui ne peuvent signifier que la fin pour plusieurs chenils .. c'est pas comme si on était nombreux, c'est pas comme si on avait une reléve jeunesse qui va reprendre le flambeau , on y va tous ensemble, chacun grignotant un appui dans son secteur et l'envoyant à cette sous ministre qui compilera notre surprise et notre demande légitime de changement de cet article.
