Trail Groomers

Geoff - Drag Groomer

My drag has evolved over 25 years of tinkering.
The drag is used for XC skiing/skijor trails.
I started with the A frame tow and 4X4 steel pan with a corduroy finish on the back. A few years ago I cut the pan in half and added the frame to increase the length. There is a sharpened 1 1/2” walkway grate that I use to chop ice. It also adds 100 lb. of weight. I originally dragged it at the back. When I extended the frame I moved it to the center and pivoted it to make it easy to raise and lower. I can also lower it to act as a leveling blade. This has eliminated the hummocks that I used to get in the trail. I have HDPE sheet that was removed from a Pisten Bully track guard on the bottom of the pans. When I placed the HDPE I also added snowmobile ski carbides on the outer edge of the front and rear pans. The carbides stop any side sliding and also keeps the HDPE above the pavement when crossing roads. With the advent of skate skiing I have increased the down pressure on the rear pan. It leaves as good a finish as any commercial drag.
I currently tow it with a Skandic WT 550F.
