THE SEELEY LAKE DOG SLED RACE FEATURED AN INTERNATIONAL FIELD OF 27 MUSHERS
The Seeley Lake 50/100/200 was run on the weekend of Jan. 26-27. The race offered three formats; a 50-mile, 100-mile and 200-mile race plus a Kid-Mutt Pull. The races included 27 dog teams, and their drivers, from seven states, Canada, and Norway. The drivers ranged in age from 17 to 81 years old. Six veterans from Alaska's Iditarod Dog Sled Race were among the competitors. The race included an overnight camp with the dogs at Holland Lake. The 50-mile race ended at Holland Lake and the 100-mile race ended at the Seeley Lake Community Center. Teams competing in the 200-mile race continued on to the Whitetail Ranch near Ovando and then returned to a finish in Seeley Lake.
Terry Hinesly from Minnesota was the race marshall and George Geotsalitis, from Illinois was the race judge. Dr. Pam Barker from Whitefish, MT was the race veterinarian. Dr. Barker awarded the Best Cared for Team Award to Brian Camilli from Idaho for his consistently good care of his team. The dog team drivers awarded the Sportsmanship Award to Norman Lee for his continued efforts in promoting and directing the Seeley Lake Dog Sled Race. The Sportsmanship Award is supported by Chinook Enterprises of Seeley Lake.
