Mr. Raymond Eugene Mackler went to his final resting place Monday, June 27, 2016. He was born April 18, 1921, in Sweet Springs, Missouri. He joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 9, 1940, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
During his time in the Army, he was qualified as an expert gunner. He traveled to New Zealand on R & R while in the Army, and there he met and married his wife of 70 years, Valerie. They returned to the United States and lived near Saint Louis, Missouri, until 1982, at which time they moved to Fairbanks. Raymond built a home in Fairbanks and was well known in the dog mushing community for building Star Line Dog Mushing Sleds.
He leaves behind his wife, Valerie, and numerous friends. Ray was proceeded in death by his son, Len Mackler. At Ray's request, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements are entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
