Press release: The Sport of Dog Mushing Reaches New Heights through Global Media Distribution

A record-breaking number of people across the world are expected to follow Iditarod, the grand finale of QRILL PAWS. The international dog mushing championship will be distributed in more than 100 countries by some of the world’s leading news agencies and media broadcasters.

This is the first time the sport of dog mushing has entered a strategic TV distribution globally through newly established QRILL Pet Arctic World Series (QRILL PAWS). Worldwide media broadcasters including the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and news agency Reuters guarantees a broad coverage of the races.

“We have aimed to bring the excitement, joy, and remarkable performance from the most exotic arctic dog mushing races to a world-wide audience. The first season has already exceeded our expectations as we have seen major interest from a global audience. We have barely begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities this sport has to offer. This is just the start,” says QRILL PAWS Project Manager, Nils Marius Otterstad.

Investing in innovative entertainment

The first season of the World Series consists of four legendary and historic dog races that take place across the globe and that ultimately determines the world’s best dog mushers. The John Beargrease in Minnesota kickstarted the season in January prior to Femundløpet in Norway and Volga Quest in Russia.

Millions of viewers from around the world will now be able to follow the competing teams in Iditarod when the race starts on Saturday, March 7th. In addition to broadcasting, the French digital company, Georacing will deliver a unique and innovative GPS tracking, where the audience will see the Mushers live in 3D, rank their favorite mushers, view timing information at checkpoints, race speed, distance to finish, resting time and more.

“We have invested in innovative visualization technology and production to showcase the sport in a new and more entertaining way. We are looking to inspire not only the mushing community but also regular dog owners across the world. The sport has more than the races to offer, we believe the dog mushers will inspire the general public in terms of training, nutrition, general welfare and guidelines for their own dogs,” says Otterstad.

About the QRILL Pet Arctic World Series

QRILL PAWS will highlight the sport of long-distance dog mushing. The aim is to help the sport and the mushing community to grow and to strengthen the separate race organizations, as well as showcase the world-class dog care that the sport is famous for.

The series is based on a joint point system, advanced digital visualization of GPS tracking, as well as television production and distribution. QRILL PAWS was established as a non-profit sports series through an initiative by Aker BioMarine. All proceeds go back to the events and as investments in the sport of long-distance dog mushing.
