Mushers find peace and quiet during 24 hour layover in McGrath
More than a dozen mushers blew through McGrath early Wednesday night, eager to continue on the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
But the ones who stayed were greeted with peace and quiet as the sun rose over the Kuskokwim on a minus 30 degree morning.
For Wade Marrs, it was the perfect place to take his mandatory 24-hour layover.
“This team’s a little freight train, they’re just not moving very fast. But they definitely got power,” Marrs said.
Enough power that they almost took off without him after he tipped over on the ice coming into Rohn.
