Sterling dog sledder to compete in world championship
John Perry has been selected to compete with his six-dog team in the 2017 Winter Sled Dog World Championships to be held in Haliburton, Ontario. Canada. The event will be sponsored by the International Federation of Sled Dog Sports. The date for the event has yet to be set.
Perry has consistently been very competitive in this sport since his retirement from teaching and coaching at Sterling High School. He won the World Championships in 2005 in Dawson City, Yukon, with his six-dog team. That same year he won a silver medal with his eight-dog team. He was the only American to medal that year, bringing home gold and silver. During his time in the International Sled Dog Racing Association, he has won six gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals.
