Musher Austin Forney’s goal this year is to finish in the top 10 of the Pedigree Stage Stop Race.

This marks Forney’s third foray into what he calls “the Super Bowl of mushing,” and he’s hoping to beat his personal best of 11th place.

“We’ve been training hard, but I know everyone else has, too,” Forney said. “The main thing I tell myself is to run your race.”

The Stage Stop, which begins and ends in Jackson this year, is an eight-stage race through western Wyoming and eastern Idaho. It starts Friday night, weaving through the town of Jackson and ending at Snow King. Then the mushers and their dogs will set their sights on the rest of western Wyoming.
