Miro Sipos of Windsor struggles to keep his bike on track.... - Owen Sound, ON 'Canicross' way more than a walk in woods
SAUGEEN SHORES - When taking your dog for a walk just isn't enough, Lisa De Gennaro has the sport for you.
Dogs in harnesses were pulling like mad, running through the woods along winding footpaths with their owners in tow this weekend at the MacGregor Point Dryland Sled Dog Derby.
Some people ran behind their dogs, others were pulled along on bicycles, scooters or carts known as rigs, depending on which class they were competing in at MacGregor Point Provincial Park.
The four-dog “canicross” pro class, where dogs ran tethered to a runner over four miles, was sanctioned by the International Federation of Sled Dog Sports. Some of those racers were accumulating points in overall competitive standings in a bid to qualify as a member of Team Canada.
