What's going on with
our Weather? They say weather is what you see when you look out the window... I think most mushers and race organizers are acutely aware of the changes in winter weather that have occurred over the last ten years or so...SDC staff certainly is as race cancellations have increased each year. While the Lower 48 is probably used to more variation in sledding conditions, even our friends in Alaska and Canada (with notable exceptions) have seen less or later snow. This season of 2006-2007 finds Europe experiencing a snow drought also. So, I think it's natural, especially for us old timers who remember snow up to waists by December, to wonder what's going on. The best guess is some combination of cyclical weather variations and global warming. The following links provide some info on climate and weather changes and how they're affecting various countries. We'll be adding links from time to time as we find new ones. If you have any suggestions for additional links, please Email us
