Hi KJ, I'm not exactly sure I would know the difference. I think of a virus as similar to when a human gets the stomach flu. Basically you have diarrhea for 2-3 days whether your active or sitting in bed. This doesn't seem to fit your situation. When a dog is under stress I believe it is important to replace the naturally occurring bacterias which are found in the intestinal tract. I am now using something called Milk Replacer to do this. It is basically a product designed for use in farm animals including dogs. The ingredients include animal protien, animal fat and bacterias similiar to those found in Yogurt or Cottage Cheese. I mix in a small amount daily to their food ration. I am cautious to recommend supplements because they can can more harm than good when used improperly. One last thought is the use of fiber such as Metamucil. When my dogs reached the 20-30 mile mark I was beginning to see stress diarrhea. Some people on this forum recommended the use of fiber which I found did help the problem almost overnight. Again just a small amount is needed.
