Feeding during a race

I know everyone has their own opinion of how much dogs should be fed during a race, but no one has really ever said the "amount" of food to feed as a meal. For instance, when you are on your run/rest cycle, and it's time to feed a meal(not a snack), how much should you feed? I mean, should the meals be smaller or larger than a meal fed in the dogyard? I know that the dogs need anywhere from 8,000 to 10,000 calories a day during a race, so the amount of food will depend on calories, type of food/meat, etc.

So, during an average meal on a distance(or mid-distance) race, how much food should the dogs get? And what size cooler is good for a 12-14 dog team? Also, how big of a snack? I mean, should a snack(meat for instance) be like 1/8 of a pound? Or 1/4 of a pound? We usually use small chunks of meat(race) mix/turkey skins/beef/lamb but I've never weighed them or anything. And how big of a piece of fish(whitefish for example)? Should they get a whole fish or half a fish? Or just a chunk?

I thought this would be a good topic of discussion, especially for beginning racers out there(us included)!! Any and ALL opinions would be appreciated!! :o)
