Bloody diarrhea definitely is not desirable. It happens because the small vessels in the lower gut are fragile. They break easily and then blood runs out. This happens for a number of possible reasons. One - the diet fed is high in plant based protein sources that have not been adequately processed and therefore acts like a sandpaper on the gut lining making it more fragile(including the blood vessels), two - the animal has an inherent "weak" gut (rare), three - can be caused by a hefty parasite load, four - the harder the animal works the more critical it is to have a well balanced diet covering all the aspects of protein, fats and glucides as well as the mineral vitamin ratios necessary for working dogs, five - your timing of feeding can play a role - heavy exercise is best many hours after being fueled (at least in the sprint sector, and six - the breed of the dog can also play a role.
