We use beet pulp to supplement the fiber intake and try to maintain it at about 3.7 to 4%. We run open class sprint and usually see the bloody diarreha (sp?) first start to be a problem when we go in excess of 16 miles at sprint speed. We have been able to keep it under control with the beet pulp and it is cheap. If it is only one or two dogs with the problem, psyillium (sp?) would be the route I would suggest. The dogs can continue to be run but if the bloody discharge continues, you will definitely see a dropoff in the dog's performance and you may make a bad decision to cull the dog when simple treatment may bring it back to its full potential.
