I've heard of Mushers in Alaska giving small pieces of deer hide or caribou hide to their dogs. Supposedly, because it can't be digested, it cleans out their gut, kinda like a safe brillo pad for the intestines. Heard the same thing about chicken feathers. Now,,,,this could be an old wive's tale,,,so don't quote me on it. I know when I shoot a deer I usually give the lower sections of the legs to the pups,,, hide, bones, tendons, hooves and all. They chew, toss, eat, play with, whatever the whole thing eventually, and I've never had any problems.
