For stitching booties it is very important to use a thread that will hold up to tough conditions. Most commercial bootie suppliers are probably using nylon or polycore heavy duty threads on industrial machines cabable of running 46 or 69 weight nylons or perhaps even dacron thread. A commercial 5 thread serger with safety lock stitch also comes in quite handy, which will give you your overlock stitch and a straight row of safety stitching.
