cotton mix is bad, nylon or poly is good. I use a poly-oncore thread for sewing jackets and have used it on booties but haven't really tested it out enough to give a thumbs up. I mostly get my booties from a friend whom makes dog gear for a living and uses nylon. Probably easiest for you is to call a company called Outdoor wilderness Fabrics. They have thread and material and a bunch of other cool stuff. 1-800-OWF-SHOP. Good luck.
