We just finished our fall worming. We generally worm once a year using a triple wormer such as Panacur granules which are a 3-day dose cycle. As we worm, we also clean the yard several times each day, and it is also good to treat the ground with either a kennel disinfectant spray, bleach water spray, etc. We usually sprinkle some powdered bleach or sweet lime on a damp/wet ground to help. When we do this, we move the dogs to our fenced yard for a few hours to allow the disinfectant to work (and to keep the dogs from licking the ground, etc).
We have 14 dogs, and we only worm again in the year if we notice anything amiss. We are extremely careful to keep any pups completely isolated from the dog yard until they are older and have went through a de-worming schedule. Same goes for the mothers of any litters. They are kept out of the dog yard until they have been de-wormed also.
We have found that we rarely have to deal with worms and as a matter of fact, none of the dogs were showing any signs of worms this fall when we wormed.
We got our wormer from our vet, because up here in Alaska, you can't get tapeworm wormer without a prescription. Also, if we worm any other time, we like to use Strongid or Drongit.
This is the schedule that we have used and it works for us. However, just like everyone says, Each musher does what works for them.
