Yes, my pointer does run in harness and also leads. He too is a natural and to see that dog throw himself into his harness and pull non-stop...Whew!!!! It's AWESOME!! If he had a thick coat, he would definately be the hardest worker on our team. Aliy Z. & I were joking about it and she said, "Just throw a coat on him!!"
All joking aside, this pointer is the slimmer build with long legs and a well muscled body. (He's also AKC with field champions and master hunters throughout his pedigree) We bred the male pointer with the female alaskan to produce good coats, good feet and a bit calmer disposition than the craziness of a pointer. These pups are definately looking great and all have decent coats. I've seen some of those Euro-hounds and some of them have no coat to speak of.
One of the females is from Swingley/King bloodlines, and the other is from Stamm lines(a sprint musher in Wa...did the Quest back in 85 or 86). Both of the mothers lead, along with the pointer and the Stamm dam ALWAYS throws fantastic race dogs. (She herself finished Race to the Sky in Montana) So, it is going to be awesome watching these pups grow.
Ok...enough of my prattling. Needless to say, you can see that we put a lot of thought behind it. I'm still interested in other musher's opinions. Especially those who have good pointer crosses.
