TMR,
I might sound like a Republican here, but this is what I do.
I figure that I need Vet services from time to time. I have a local vet that I have been using for a number of years so he knows me well.
I have a small kennel of 13 dogs. Whenever I need any kind of shots or medicine, I go to "my vet". Because I "use" him for the big stuff like getting dogs fixed and other major work, he gives me a great break on drugs. Not to mention a good break on the operations he needs to perform from time to time.
At the risk of sounding like a Republican, (go bush!!!), I would really like to see the mushing community develop a closer relationship with their local vet. He can help out with any questions you have as far as basic dog care plus really help you out with the local authorities if the need arises.
Anybody can get a great deal on 7 ways and what not. But when you need your vet for a major repair, he'll treat you like anybody else that walks through the door. (at least I know I would)
So I guess what I'm saying is, spend the couple of extra bucks if any, and use your local vet. Develop a good working relationship with him and he'll be there when you need him.
Just my honest opinion.
Paul
