I think that sled runners became more standardized with the advent of the QCR rail. Many people use QCR plastics and can you imagine the frustration if everyone had a different size runner. We used to use QCR, but now we have runners with P-Tex and we just wax. Our runners look more like a X-country ski. They are cambered in the center (raised) so that when you put your weight on it the runner is distributed evenly. The back of the runner is curved up so that when you are taking corners the runner is not digging in & slowing you down. Then there is just a slight wasp waist to it. Going from 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 and back to 1 1/4. Do those sound standard to you? I admit I don't know much about what makes them work I just know that they are very fast. You put a team of good dogs in front of that and you fly.

Most of the trails we race on are groomed very nicely as we run on sprint trails. Can't say about the distance trails, but I think they are becoming more groomed also. At least they usually have had a snowmachine over them. I'm going to stick with what I have until someone comes up with something better. Maybe it will be you.
