Shannon: Thanks to you - and to Curtis - for enlightening with your first-hand knowledge of the situation up there. If that article was supposed to be a "call to arms" to get people talking with their state and federal representatives about this issue, it failed badly. Instead it got people [myself included] somewhat mobilized to try to do something more immediate to try to save the dogs. Debbie and I aren't rich, but would have been glad to house/feed some of the dogs over the winter if that would have helped. But speaking for myself: Political situations are something else entirely. I am NOT willing to get involved in the politics of a situation when I know next to nothing about the issues involved. That being said, if the salmon runs are really depleted by over-fishing by corporate trawlers - as you would seem to indicate - I wouldn't be contacting Fish and Game anyway. I'd be contacting the Environmental Protection Agency and demanding to know why the salmon that spawn in the [depleted] Yukon river aren't being protected at least until the runs return to normal ...
