I asked my vet about this. Excercise has a lot to do with this arguement. A beagle in a pen cannot possibly process food, and thus the protein like an active sled dog burning calories, and nutrients en mass every day. This is the reason my older dogs are on a lower protein diet, because their bodies cannot process everything that I'm pumping into my race dogs. If studies show that this high protein causes kidney problems, then it probably does indeed for less active dogs. I'm not going worry too much about this, and continue to feed high protein National with meat etc. Just my 2 cents.
