I don't believe there is any proven corralation between high protien/fat diets and kidney problems in canines. If there are, and it was done by an unbiased scientific study group, then point me the way to the artical. The only thing you need to change in a diet from summer to fall to winter is the amount of food, other than adding more fat to the diet starting in early winter if the dogs are running many miles and/or in cold climates. Remember 20 degrees isn't very cold to a husky. It could be cold for a Pointer cross or greyhound cross, but average huskies can get warm running in 15 degree temps during the daylight. Especially if you are running 40 plus miles. I would think that if your overall diet, icluding meat and other supplements, is 35/20 during summer, that would certainly be sufficient. Almost all mushers I know feed a diet near those numbers, or higher, year around. The others are feeding lower quality foods, for cost reduction. And none of the people feeding lower quality foods are competitive mushers.
