Cariad, By Antarctic dogs you don't mean the dogs of Explorers Mawson,Byrd,Amundson,Scott,Steger or others? And probably not the pets the Chinese or Chileans kept at their bases? By Antarctic Dogs I assume you mean the dogs that were kept at the various Antarctic Science Stations from 1944 until (i think)1993?, When the last dogs left the continent from the British Bases. The British Brought 36 dogs Labrador Sled dogs (similar to Canadian Eskimo Dog)to the Antarctic in 1944. Some of these dogs went to the Aussies in 1947. In 1948 the French brought 15 Greenland Huskies South that also ended up in Australia (Melbourne Zoo). The inter breeding of these dogs formed the base for all the sleddogs in the Anatarctic for the next 50 years. Infrequently over the years a bit of blood was added from Greenland(And perhaps elsewhere?). The Antarctic conference in the early 90s that passed the resolution of ridding the continent of domestic animals is much more of a political determination than a biological one.
