Start spinning new leaders off that new one and whatever else you have. Try every dog you have up there. Concentrate on that. A common lament on long races is that,"I lost my leader". I find it incredible that otherwise intelligent people, after 1500 miles of training, go to the starting line with one or two leaders. Even if you prefer a single lead, train with double. Psycologically it reduces pressure..less likelyhood of souring. Going into a long race there's no excuse not to have at least six leaders in the team. And you may find that different dogs up there have different abilities i.e. soft trail, ice, wind, etc. They may not all be "magic" but it's wonderful insurance..Joe
