Debbie...Last winter Neen Brown and a couple of other rookies passed through here and I was appalled at the lack of basics..not their fault..they just had never had exposure to things I/we take for granted. Following the race a conversation happened between Bill Hall, Don Bowers, Bill Davidson, and myself regarding. Was decided: There would be several 2 or 3 day "camping" trips in my/our training schedules on which we would take some rookie teams "along with"..run 20/25 miles, make camp (do the routine; why, how, when), big campfire and repeat the following day utilizing the new knowledge..another camp, and do it all again. Designed as a high learning curve environment, no money involved, good fun, and unsanctioned by anyone. B. Davidson said he might do something similar out of Willow. Plan was to post a notice at Iditarod and Quest HQ when creeks are frozen and trail is in. I'm training a crew of 1st year pups this winter and this fits well with what I do anyway. This will happen at least twice before Feb 1 and I think a half dozen teams would make it a fun trip. It's totally informal..I'll likely post something here in Nov. when winter begins to come together..Joe
