Return to 2001 Canadian Results List

Results provided by Elaine Tomkins, Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan

Conditions:

Purse $30,000

340 miles of tough terrain from Prince Albert to La Ronge and back.
The weather was the deciding factor for the finishers. The temperatures hovered as low as –40C at night and –25C during the day. The dogs fared well, but is was hard on the mushers not used to this extreme cold accompanied by wind. Lots of mushers got frost bite, one froze his toes.

Our rookie from Belgium, Stefaan DeMarle proved he could "take it" by finishing 4th.  Our second time champion, Jim Tomkins beat the field.  Ed Rolles made Jim work for his win.   All in all it was an exciting race.
