Several dogs experiencing hair loss. It has more or less been isolated to the croup, doesn't look like rain rot, and only seems to effect guard hairs. The guard hairs on the croup become kinked and wiry and rapidly begin to fall out. This isn't harness rub, and there's been some talk of a fungus that is affecting these select few. The majority of the dogs (both with and without hair loss), have very flakey skin. They are fed Dr Tims Momentum formula, supplemented with beef and occasionally lamb fat.

I am curious if anyone else has seen this sort of thing before and if so, what did they attribute it to?

I think beef and sheep fat are a good source of calories but low in essential fatty acids which can lead to wiry hair and flaky skin.

Could be low thyriod levels. Are the dogs related?

If it seems as if the hair looks like it's broken, check for fleas or lice.
