I would definately reccomend plastic. I recently smashed into a fencepost going about 20 miles an hour in the first 100 yards of an icy trail. I was amazed at the strength of the bow. It is only 3/4" thick and 1/2" wide. I suppose a thicker one would be even stronger. I don't know what density this plastic is, but it sure is strong. Scotty
