Siberians have a tendency to want to socialize on the trail, but can be trained to pass. I have trained both Siberians and Alaskans. After many years of trying to teach leaders to pass, and sometimes with frustration, Sandy Saunderson suggested practicing head on meets, and the passing would come easier. I have been using this method for 11 years now, and it works. The meet is more difficult because dogs are coming on head to head and eye to eye but because each team is going the opposite way, it can take less time than a pass. I no longer have to train the team to pass. Another thing I would mention is to make sure that you have point dogs behind your leaders that support them in a meet or pass or you will discourage the leaders.
